Courtyard

A courtyard, by definition, is an open space surrounded by walls, within a building. It is quite a unique spot if you think about it – one that has the airy open feeling of the exteriors yet provide adequate privacy by being within your home. The interior versions of these nature spaces are becoming more and more popular in contemporary home design as people strive to bring the outdoors in, or for those who don’t have the luxury of their own outdoor space, an internal courtyard provides an ideal alternative. I have put together a small list of courtyards we came across of late.

Pebble floors with minimal planting are a great alternative to a high maintenance garden, allowing maximum relaxation time in your minimalist serene space. Simple stepping-stones or a solitary tree can bring a great deal of serene beauty, and these uncomplicated layouts showcase courtyard design in its purest form.

It isn’t necessary to give up a precious room in your house, consider converting a connecting area of your home into a natural haven, such as a hallway or reception area; you may find that a little oasis like these provides a beautiful divide between living spaces, and promotes a sense of peace around your property.
